VR Tank SIMULATOR: BUILD 18 2017
We made a multiplayer tank virtual reality game. Our goal was immersion; instead of playing VR with a video game controller, we wanted the player to feel like they were there. Our team performed so well that we won the 2017 Outstanding Project Award, equivalent to winning the Build 18 competition.
The tank game was custom-made on the Unity software and ran on Oculus DK2 hardware. We made our custom controls and chair mechanism that had a motor to rotate the chairs when rotation occurred in-game. The custom controls information was sent to an Arduino microcontroller communicating the information to Unity.
I designated myself as the team's project manager and ensured that progress was made to meet our presentation deadline. My other jobs included creating mechanic systems like the turning mechanism and chair integration. I would also assist the teammate in charge of the electronics whenever he had issues.
We were proud of this project and even made a rap video about it. We also made a breakdown video to document the mechanical system. Take a look below.
