Simple Brushless Water Propeller
A quick project to get into underwater propulsion.
I have experience working with brushless motors and wanted to see if I can manage a quick project for a day out in the water.
This has a brushless motor propeller with an ESC driver meant to work with a RC controller. I used an old ice cream tub to hold all of my electronics and added some gasket material on the lid to seal it up. Since I wasn’t planning to go too deep into the water with this unit I knew this would be enough ingress protection.
Inside was a 3s LiPo battery and an Arduino Uno with a 9V battery to power it. Outside I had a simple switch that I ingress protected by coating with hot glue. Overall straight forward except for needing to tune the trigger values on the Arduino Uno since this uses the RC PWM protocol.
Next steps are to make a larger unit with 2 propellers for balance, have a higher cell count battery (4s or 5s) potentially with a custom made BMS (Battery Management System) and be able to charge it with a USB C cable.
